Summary:
High Respirable dust concentrations in crusher cabin causes HVAC evaporator core to be cleaned weekly. Air quality in cabin is highly contaminated with rock dust. RESPA®-CF Vortex HyperFLOW Fresh Air system with Electronic Pressure Monitor and RESPA®-CFX Recircultated Air system were installed. Results after 1,120 hours: no HVAC breakdowns or clean outs, air quality dramatically improved. The operator is very happy with improved air quality in cab.

Summary:
The Hitachi Mining shovel experienced regular extended downtime due to HVAC failure. This case study reveals a key to machine productivity, HVAC uptime. The dramatic turnaround in HVAC repairs took place after the RESPA Cab Air Quality system was installed. The machine went from 50 hours to 1000 hours and has not suffered HVAC downtime since the system was installed.
Test machine is one of five EX3600's equipped with the RESPA-CF Vortex HyperFLOW Cab Air Quality System operating in the coal mine. As of the date of this report all five machines have exceeded 1000 hours of run time with similar results!

Amazing Demo of RESPA-CF Self Cleaning Filter Housing
Sy-Klone's amazing self cleaning MERV 16 filter and filter housing are incorporated into the RESPA®-CF Vortex HyperFLOW™. This Demo show the self cleaning filter and filter housing in action. The dozer, running in a coal mine, went from 1.5 days of fresh air filter life on the cab to 1000 hours. Previously the cab would not hold pressure. With the RESPA-CF it never loses pressurization between planned maintenance intervals. The high efficiency fresh air filter removes particulate at over 99% down to .3 microns and with the optional HEPA filter at 99.75% to .3 microns in the first pass. The REV3K6 Complete Kit for the D11R includes the REV0003 (fresh air precleaner and pressure monitor), REV0004 (recirculated air precleaner) and REV3K4 Adaptation Kit.

RESPA Before & After:
Prior to installation, operators had to wear respirators and shower at the end of every shift. They often worked with doors open due to diesel fumes in the cab. Filters only lasted 250 hours and the evaporator cores were cleaned every 500 hours, however the AC stopped cooling after 100 hours. Since installing the RESPA system, the cab stays clean, cool and comfortable and no filter change is required for the full 1000 hour maintenance interval; the evaporator coils stay clean too and there have been no HVAC repairs needed. Operators no longer need to wear respirators and they are still clean at the end of shift. We hope to install this system on all the machines in the mine.

OPTIMAX Before & After:
Prior to OPTIMAX installation, 47% of the downtime experienced by a coal mining company in Columbia, South America was due to the need to change constantly clogging air filters. In addition, this required them to maintain a huge inventory of air filters and when used, a huge amount of waste for disposal. They were hoping to achieve 250 hours between filter changes with no filter blow-outs in between. The case study involved installing an OPTIMAX on one of their Cat D11R machines, which then ran for 750 hours between filter changes with no blowouts.
