Understanding Your Sy-Klone Warranty

Common Warranty Misconceptions:

Sy-Klone parts are designed to provide service well beyond their Limited Warranty period, if installed and maintained according to the installation and use instructions. There are many reasons products fail that are not covered by the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty. Please review the most common causes of failure to determine if your product failure is a result of a defect in materials or workmanship.

After reading this, if you determine that your part failed for reasons not stated below then you may have a valid warranty claim.

Most common causes of failure in plastic parts, which are not covered by the Limited Warranty:

Failures resulting from incorrect application.
Damage to the part caused by improper installation, improper or abnormal use, misuse, neglect, accident or unauthorized repair.

Failures resulting from parts not sold or approved by Sy-Klone.
Damage to parts, fixtures, housings, attachments and accessory items that are not part of the Sy-Klone product, including but not limited to, check valves and hoses are not covered by the Limited Warranty.

Damage to the part caused when removing or reinstalling the part.

Damage to parts which are subjected to an impact from a falling object, which cracks or breaks the plastic.

Damage to parts which are dropped during installation or maintenance causing cracks or breaks in the plastic which change the form, fit, or function of the device resulting in failure of the plastic or changes the roundness of the plastic in the fan shroud causing the fan blade to impact the side of the plastic or jam which causes the fan blade to break and the fan motor to burn out.
If you have dropped and broken the part, you are not entitled to make a claim against the Limited Warranty.

Damage caused by operating in extreme weather. Operating the device in extreme cold or heat can result in stress cracks or broken plastic and premature failure of the motor. If the unit is operating in extreme cold below -13°F (-25°C) precautions must be taken to keep the unit protected from the extreme cold. Cold weather in this range can easily dip below -40°F (-40°C). When this happens, even for a short period of time (minutes), the effect on the plastic and motor can be premature failure or immediate failure. Note if you are operating in extreme environments you may not be covered under the Limited Warranty. Combining extreme cold and vibration can result in product failure. These extreme conditions are not covered under the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Most common causes of failure in Sy-Klone electrical parts/motors:

Damage caused when the motor is dropped during installation or maintenance. Dropping parts during installation or maintenance can cause breakage within the motor housing. Sometimes the breakage is immediately obvious, as the motor will not run. In some cases, the motor will run but makes unusual noises and then it fails prematurely. In some cases, the windings are altered or broken causing premature motor failure.

Damage caused when parts are subject to an impact from a falling object, which cracks or breaks the housing around the motor and fan blade causing he fan blade to bind or the motor shaft to bend. In all cases, damage caused by objects falling on a Sy-Klone, are not covered under the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty. Note: Damage caused by dropping the device or objects falling onto the device is easy to identify.

Damage caused by over or under voltage and voltage spikes. All electrical motors are designed to run within a narrow voltage rage. Voltage spikes, typically caused when the machine ignition is turned on, can significantly damage the motor causing it to degrade rapidly and fail within the limited warranty period. Sy-Klone is not responsible for damage caused to the electrical motor by the machine electrical system.

Damage caused when the motor is exposed to water. Sy-Klone motors are not water resistant or water proof. Water damage, which is easily detected in a returned motor, is not covered by the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Damage caused by jamming the fan blade. Jamming the fan blade that prevents the motor from operating will quickly cause the motor to burn up. Proper fusing is required. However, regardless of the fusing, damage caused to the motor, motor shaft or fan blade, are not covered by the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Damage caused by tampering with or disassembling the motor. Tampering with the motor in any way, taking it apart for examination, removing it from the device in which it was originally installed or using it as a replacement part will void the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Damage caused by high-pressure washing. Applying high-pressure water at the air inlet can damage the fan blade causing it to go out of balance and/or soak the motor. Washing the device containing the motor directly with high-pressure water is not recommend and can be a source of premature motor failure.

Damage caused by improper wiring. Improper wiring is often a cause of motor failure. The power source should be an “always on” power source. A common mistake in HVAC installations is to wire the motor to an HVAC blower motor rheostat. This will cause the motor to fail prematurely and voids the Limited Warranty.
Attaching the motor directly to a battery as its primary power source will result in under voltage, which overheats the motor and leads to premature motor failure. This violates the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Damage caused by misapplication of the device/operating the device outside of its design parameters.
Misapplication of the device can result in stress on the motor or the plastic housing in which the motor is mounted. Excessive vibration and excessive vibration in conjunction with any of the previously stated installation errors can quickly degrade the motor and is a violation of the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Damage caused by operating the device the device in extreme cold or heat which can result in stress cracks or broken plastic and premature failure of the motor. If the unit is operating in extreme cold between -13°F (-25°C) and -40°F (-40°C) precautions must be taken to keep the unit protected from the extreme cold. Cold weather in this range can easily dip below -40°F (-40°C). When this happens even for a short period of time (minutes) the effect on the plastic and motor can be premature failure or immediate failure. Note if you are operating in the extreme environments you may not be covered under the Limited Warranty. Combining extreme cold and high vibration is a recipe for product failure. These extreme conditions are not covered under the Sy-Klone Limited Warranty.

Guidelines for making a Limited Warranty Claim

Inspect the Packaging.

Sy-Klone parts are designed to provide service well beyond their Limited Warranty period, if installed and maintained according to the installation and use instructions. However, if upon initial inspection of the parts you find that the plastic has been broken or cracked, inspect and photograph the part and the box in which the part was delivered. If there is any sign of damage to the box, you will need to make a claim with the shipping company. If the box does not appear to be damaged, examine the packaging and other contents of the box. Sy-Klone’ s packaging scheme is designed to minimize the amount of packaging materials by using cardboard shapes the hold the products in a precise location within the box.

  • If the part is loose in the box or if there is evidence that the part has impacted the inside of the box i.e. torn or heavily imprinted cardboard, then you will need to file a claim with the shipping company.

All Sy-Klone packaging is designed for the parts that are shipped in them.

  • Sy-Klone does not use any “peanuts” shredded newspaper, bubble wrap or any non-recyclable materials in its packaging. If any of these things are present or if the box was obviously opened or “repackaged” you will need to file a claim with the shipper.
  • If the box is missing packing material or is full of foam peanuts or air bags commonly used in shipping, the box has been repackaged. You will need to file a claim with the shipper.

If you can find nothing wrong with the packaging per the above guidelines and the part is broken, please contact Sy-Klone immediately.

  • DO NOT throw away any packaging and take pictures of all sides of the box that the part came in and the shipping label. Email these pictures to warranty@sy-klone.com.
  • You will be given a Limited Warranty form to complete and return along with the required photographs specified on the form.
  • If the nature of the damage indicates that it took place during shipping and no packaging or box photos can be produced, the Limited Warranty will not be honored.
  • Once the Limited Warranty form and attached pictures are reviewed by Sy-Klone, you will be notified as to the disposition of the Limited Warranty claim.

Sy-Klone will not cross ship new parts based on the submission of a Limited Warranty claim form.
Once the Limited Warranty form is reviewed, you will receive either a return goods authorization (RGA) a refund of the purchase price or an explanation as to why the Limited Warranty claim has been denied.

Sy-Klone reserves the right to require that the part be retuned. In those circumstances, once the goods are returned, they will be thoroughly inspected and the disposition of the claim will be determined.

If the claim is determined to be valid, the claimant will receive notification and either a credit for reimbursement of the warrantied part or a replacement repair part(s).
The user is responsible for the cost of return shipping.

If the claim is determined to not be covered under the Limited Warranty, the customer will be notified as to the reason the claim was denied.
Any appeal to the Limited Warranty decision will be reviewed and final decision rendered by VP of Sales.
